{"id":289,"date":"2010-03-11T19:54:25","date_gmt":"2010-03-12T03:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/?p=289"},"modified":"2010-03-11T19:54:25","modified_gmt":"2010-03-12T03:54:25","slug":"blast-from-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gknerd.com\/?p=289","title":{"rendered":"Blast From The Past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve been super swamped lately with various work and life things, so instead of posting about what I&#8221;m doing now, I&#8217;m going to delve a bit into the past.\u00a0 Why I think that blogging about a past project instead of a current one will have any affect on my general stress level I have no idea, but it&#8217;s not a good idea to argue with me right now.<\/p>\n<p>A few years ago, I dated this guy.\u00a0 To say the relationship was unusual would be, er, understating it.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not going to go into all the details, but he&#8217;s the reason that I once knitted Ex-Cursed Ex-Ex-Ex-Boyfriend Socks.<\/p>\n<p>A couple days ago, completely out of the blue, I got a text from this guy, and it reminded me about the first thing I ever knit for him.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-291\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/03\/11\/blast-from-the-past\/050712-155\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-291\" title=\"050712 155\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/050712-155.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, it&#8217;s a sweater.\u00a0 And yes, as soon as I finished it, we broke up.\u00a0 This wasn&#8217;t the first time the Boyfriend Sweater Curse had bitten me, and it wasn&#8217;t the last time either, but&#8230;there&#8217;s a part of me that likes to think that if you&#8217;re meant to be with someone, a curse made of yarn and love and warmth can&#8217;t possibly break you up.\u00a0 Or, to put it another way, the Boyfriend Sweater Curse is a way for the Knitting Fates to keep you away from people you shouldn&#8217;t end up with.<\/p>\n<p>Or maybe I&#8217;m justifying, because I can&#8217;t seem to learn my lesson&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>But&#8230;look!\u00a0 Flames!<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-292\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/03\/11\/blast-from-the-past\/050712-156\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-292\" title=\"050712 156\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/050712-156.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The pattern itself was from one of the Stitch &amp; Bitch books (can&#8217;t remember which one, and too rushed to find a link unfortunately &#8211; if it really matters let me know and I&#8217;ll dig it up for you later) and the sweater was knit in Lion Brand Wool Ease.\u00a0 Not the best yarn ever, but this was when I was still getting over acrylic.\u00a0 On the other hand, it looks pretty impressive, what with the intarsia and double-knitting.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-290\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/03\/11\/blast-from-the-past\/050712-153\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-290\" title=\"050712 153\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/050712-153.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, it just really wasn&#8217;t meant to be when it came to the relationship between me and Flaming Sweater Man, and the fact that the Boyfriend Sweater Curse worked against us proved it.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you might wonder, then, if I feel comfortable with the fact that I&#8217;m now knitting a <a href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/tag\/carghdigan\/\">sweater<\/a> for the man I&#8217;m dating (aka <a href=\"http:\/\/bashertcomics.com\">The Blanket Thief<\/a>).\u00a0 But I&#8217;m not worried &#8211;
