{"id":526,"date":"2010-11-09T19:13:30","date_gmt":"2010-11-10T03:13:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/?p=526"},"modified":"2010-11-09T19:13:30","modified_gmt":"2010-11-10T03:13:30","slug":"where-crazy-cat-lady-and-fiber-obsession-collide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gknerd.com\/?p=526","title":{"rendered":"Where Crazy Cat Lady and Fiber Obsession Collide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t spend much time talking about Bear Kitty, but he&#8217;s really a very impressive cat.\u00a0 For one thing, on one body he manages to fit enough fur to cover 6 normal cats &#8211; his coat is almost as thick as a sea otter&#8217;s (and nearly as waterproof).\u00a0 This means he tends to shed&#8230;a lot.<\/p>\n<p>In an attempt to combat this problem, I decided to try getting a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00384301Q?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=elisabeth-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=B00384301Q\">FURminator<\/a>.\u00a0 This is one of the most amazing grooming tools I&#8217;ve ever seen &#8211; every time I brush Bear Kitty with it, I get a literal pile of fur.\u00a0 Just one stroke of the brush (even after a full brushing just a couple days ago) gets an impressive amount of hair:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-530\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/11\/09\/where-crazy-cat-lady-and-fiber-obsession-collide\/p1020182\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-530\" title=\"P1020182\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/P1020182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For a normal person, their reaction to a big pile of used cat hair would be &#8220;Ewww, gross.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>For a fiber-obsessed person, however, the reaction might be the same as mine, which was, &#8220;Hrm, that looks an awful lot like a free source of fiber&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, for the last couple months, I&#8217;ve been collecting the hair I brush off in a bag with the intention of spinning it into some kind of yarn.\u00a0 What I&#8217;m going to do with the yarn once I have it is unclear at best, but I seem to think this is a good idea &#8211; I&#8217;ve started spinning it:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-528\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/11\/09\/where-crazy-cat-lady-and-fiber-obsession-collide\/p1020175\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-528\" title=\"P1020175\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/P1020175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But then I look at the big pile o&#8217; fur I&#8217;ve saved up, and I think that maybe &#8211; just maybe &#8211; this is all kind of gross and I really shouldn&#8217;t be doing this:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-529\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/11\/09\/where-crazy-cat-lady-and-fiber-obsession-collide\/p1020179\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-529\" title=\"P1020179\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/P1020179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I might have to give this pursuit up &#8211; it only sounds sane if I don&#8217;t tell anyone about it.<\/p>\n<p>Er&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;here, look at this cute picture of Bear Kitty instead of thinking about the dirty secret I&#8217;ve just revealed to you:<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-527\" href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/11\/09\/where-crazy-cat-lady-and-fiber-obsession-collide\/p1010406\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-527\" title=\"P1010406\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/P1010406.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"415\" height=\"311\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t spend much time talking about Bear Kitty, but he&#8217;s really a very impressive cat.\u00a0 For one thing, on one body he manages to fit enough fur to cover 6 normal cats &#8211; his coat is almost as thick as a sea otter&#8217;s (and nearly as waterproof).\u00a0 This means he tends to shed&#8230;a lot.
