{"id":901,"date":"2012-02-06T21:21:30","date_gmt":"2012-02-07T05:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/?p=901"},"modified":"2015-10-27T05:09:47","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T05:09:47","slug":"oh-crap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gknerd.com\/?p=901","title":{"rendered":"Oh Crap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have small feet, so generally speaking a ball of sock yarn is more than enough for me to make a pair of socks with.\u00a0 In fact, I&#8217;ve never once run out of yarn while making socks.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never even come close &#8211; I&#8217;ve sometimes had so much yarn left over that I could make a pair of gloves with it (well, almost &#8211; I ran out with a finger and a half to finish, so I don&#8217;t know if that really counts, actually).<\/p>\n<p>But I think the day has finally come &#8211; I&#8217;m going to run out of yarn on the <a href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2012\/01\/03\/a-portugese-hourglass-for-the-new-year\/\">Portuguese Hourglass socks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-902\" title=\"P1030653\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/P1030653.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure exactly how this happened.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/index.php\/2010\/04\/15\/almost-there\/\">done this pattern before<\/a>, twice, and I had plenty of yarn left over.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t have significantly more stitches, nor is it significantly longer than a normal pair of socks.\u00a0 Assuming that all sock yarn is roughly the same yardage, there shouldn&#8217;t be a problem&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; er&#8230;um&#8230; just a moment&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; I thought that maybe this was just a significantly smaller ball of yarn, but that&#8217;s not it either.\u00a0 I just checked and this is the standard 100g\/420m ball of yarn, more than enough to make two of any other sock pattern.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-904\" title=\"P1030662\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/P1030662.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Somehow, inexplicably, I&#8217;ve either lost some yarn or am using a ridiculous amount more than I need.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not going to be able to match the stripes in the toe of the second sock for sure, and it&#8217;s possible I might not be able to finish at all.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got the red yarn I wound off to get to the first yellow stripe on the first sock, and the red and green yarn I wound off to get to the same place on the second, as well as one more repeat of green-red-yellow on the ball.\u00a0 I&#8217;m still not sure if that will be enough either, but it&#8217;s at least in the realm of possibilty, and that&#8217;s enough to make me keep going.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-903\" title=\"P1030655\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/P1030655.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"318\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m pretty sure the knitting fates will bite me on the butt and make me run out of yarn with about 3 rows to go, but at this point?\u00a0 I&#8217;m pretty willing to have just about any color on the toe, so long as it&#8217;s done.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have small feet, so generally speaking a ball of sock yarn is more than enough for me to make a pair of socks with.\u00a0 In fact, I&#8217;ve never once run out of yarn while making socks.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never even come close &#8211;
