{"id":99,"date":"2010-01-02T12:38:42","date_gmt":"2010-01-02T20:38:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/?p=99"},"modified":"2010-01-02T12:38:42","modified_gmt":"2010-01-02T20:38:42","slug":"my-mormor-is-a-special-lady","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gknerd.com\/?p=99","title":{"rendered":"My Mormor is a Special Lady"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who don&#8217;t speak Danish\/Norwegian, &#8220;Mormor&#8221; directly translates to &#8220;mother&#8217;s mother&#8221;, but is more likely translated to &#8220;Grandma&#8221;.\u00a0 Since my Mormor lives in Denmark, and we already called my dad&#8217;s mom &#8220;Grandma&#8221;, it made sense not to translate that and stick with &#8220;Mormor&#8221; for her.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, it was really fun to confuse the kids at school with a word they didn&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>Being the wonderful Mormor that she is, every year she sends me a package of presents, often containing a hand-knit item.\u00a0 This year, the hand knit item looked like this:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-100\" title=\"P1010381\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/P1010381-450x600.jpg\" alt=\"P1010381\" width=\"450\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Which seemed pretty innocuous, until I read the tag&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-101\" title=\"P1010382\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/P1010382.JPG\" alt=\"P1010382\" width=\"420\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For those of you who might have trouble reading it, the tag says: &#8220;Dishcloths.\u00a0 Please say thanks to Kat &#8211; she bought the yarn I just knit it.\u00a0 Mormor&#8221; (Kat is my stepmom, and a lovely lady in her own right.)<\/p>\n<p>As much as I adore Kat (and need to get her a nickname for the blog, because she&#8217;s sure to show up here again&#8230;), I just can&#8217;t fathom the humility it would take to claim that I didn&#8217;t need to be thanked for knitting something, that the person who bought the yarn deserved thanks more than me.\u00a0 Maybe if I was knitting with yarn spun from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reallifecomics.com\/archive\/091021.html\">actual princess hair<\/a> and did something ridiculously simple, but even then&#8230;I&#8217;d deserve <em>some<\/em> credit, right?<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the dishcloths themselves are lovely as well, and I&#8217;m torn by the idea of using them &#8211; I know that they&#8217;re intended to wash up messes, but the idea of purposefully getting these hand-knit beauties dirty?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-102\" title=\"P1010384\" src=\"http:\/\/gknerd.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/P1010384.JPG\" alt=\"P1010384\" width=\"420\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sacrilege, I tell you.\u00a0 Simply sacrilege.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who don&#8217;t speak Danish\/Norwegian, &#8220;Mormor&#8221; directly translates to &#8220;mother&#8217;s mother&#8221;, but is more likely translated to &#8220;Grandma&#8221;.\u00a0 Since my Mormor lives in Denmark, and we already called my dad&#8217;s mom &#8220;Grandma&#8221;, it made sense not to translate that and stick with &#8220;Mormor&#8221; for her.
